Internet Addiction

Internet Addiction

We can’t deny the fact that most of the people, usually the teenagers, are so much addicted to internet nowadays. I, myself, was an internet addict as well and I won’t deny that.
Why? What’s with the Internet? Why most teens are addicted to it?—A commonly asked questions by the people who are not involve in this addiction. Well, you can do a lot of things with the internet, things like surfing, chatting, watching and downloading movies, listening to music, play online games, reading stories online and so much more.

Is “Internet Addiction” a good thing? No, and never will be, why? Because addiction into a particular thing can cause unwanted outcomes, and we all knew that. Like this internet addiction, did you ever know that this can cause a commonly eye disorder called eye strain? Of course! If you are addicted to internet, you face the monitor a lot for a long hours making your eye muscles from becoming fatigued. If you have this kind of eye disorder you likely might experience eye soreness, dry or itchy eyes, blurred vision, spasms around the eyes, headaches and migraines. Internet addiction can also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease—specifically heart attack. A leading psychiatrist also once said that internet addiction is an “illness” itself. Other negative effects that you might possibly have for being such are the following: you’ll gain weight, insomnia, memory problem—you tend to forget things easily, absent-minded and lastly, in some rare cases you might as well become anti-social.

With just one click, one can find information within seconds when before, it would at least take an hour scanning through the book. Making friends worldwide through social networking sites—Facebook, of course, the commonly used social networking site of the youth at the moment. Twitter, if you want daily updates of your favorite celebrities; tumblr for the weird but cool & awesome people; and youtube, for those who wants to watch dramas, listen to music and stuffs. That’s just a bit of the thousands of stuffs that you can do just by having the Internet. That’s it, a few reasons why billions of people are addicted to it.

Planet Goldilocks

WASHINGTON – Astronomers say they have for the first time spotted a planet beyond our own in what is sometimes called the Goldilocks zone for life: Not too hot, not too cold. Juuuust right.
Not too far from its star, not too close. So it could contain liquid water. The planet itself is neither too big nor too small for the proper surface, gravity and atmosphere.
It's just right. Just like Earth.
"This really is the first Goldilocks planet," said co-discoverer R. Paul Butler of the Carnegie Institution of Washington.
The new planet sits smack in the middle of what astronomers refer to as the habitable zone, unlike any of the nearly 500 other planets astronomers have found outside our solar system. And it is in our galactic neighborhood, suggesting that plenty of Earth-like planets circle other stars.
Finding a planet that could potentially support life is a major step toward answering the timeless question: Are we alone?
Scientists have jumped the gun before on proclaiming that planets outside our solar system were habitable only to have them turn out to be not quite so conducive to life. But this one is so clearly in the right zone that five outside astronomers told The Associated Press it seems to be the real thing.
"This is the first one I'm truly excited about," said Penn State University's Jim Kasting. He said this planet is a "pretty prime candidate" for harboring life.
Life on other planets doesn't mean E.T. Even a simple single-cell bacteria or the equivalent of shower mold would shake perceptions about the uniqueness of life on Earth.
But there are still many unanswered questions about this strange planet. It is about three times the mass of Earth, slightly larger in width and much closer to its star — 14 million miles away versus 93 million. It's so close to its version of the sun that it orbits every 37 days. And it doesn't rotate much, so one side is almost always bright, the other dark.
Temperatures can be as hot as 160 degrees or as frigid as 25 degrees below zero, but in between — in the land of constant sunrise — it would be "shirt-sleeve weather," said co-discoverer Steven Vogt of the University of California at Santa Cruz.
It's unknown whether water actually exists on the planet, and what kind of atmosphere it has. But because conditions are ideal for liquid water, and because there always seems to be life on Earth where there is water, Vogt believes "that chances for life on this planet are 100 percent."
The astronomers' findings are being published in Astrophysical Journal and were announced by the National Science Foundation on Wednesday.
The planet circles a star called Gliese 581. It's about 120 trillion miles away, so it would take several generations for a spaceship to get there. It may seem like a long distance, but in the scheme of the vast universe, this planet is "like right in our face, right next door to us," Vogt said in an interview.
That close proximity and the way it was found so early in astronomers' search for habitable planets hints to scientists that planets like Earth are probably not that rare.
Vogt and Butler ran some calculations, with giant fudge factors built in, and figured that as much as one out of five to 10 stars in the universe have planets that are Earth-sized and in the habitable zone.
With an estimated 200 billion stars in the universe, that means maybe 40 billion planets that have the potential for life, Vogt said. However, Ohio State University's Scott Gaudi cautioned that is too speculative about how common these planets are.
Vogt and Butler used ground-based telescopes to track the star's precise movements over 11 years and watch for wobbles that indicate planets are circling it. The newly discovered planet is actually the sixth found circling Gliese 581. Two looked promising for habitability for a while, another turned out to be too hot and the fifth is likely too cold. This sixth one bracketed right in the sweet spot in between, Vogt said.
With the star designated "a," its sixth planet is called Gliese 581g.
"It's not a very interesting name and it's a beautiful planet," Vogt said. Unofficially, he's named it after his wife: "I call it Zarmina's World."
The star Gliese 581 is a dwarf, about one-third the strength of our sun. Because of that, it can't be seen without a telescope from Earth, although it is in the Libra constellation, Vogt said.
But if you were standing on this new planet, you could easily see our sun, Butler said.
The low-energy dwarf star will live on for billions of years, much longer than our sun, he said. And that just increases the likelihood of life developing on the planet, the discoverers said.
"It's pretty hard to stop life once you give it the right conditions," Vogt said.

December Love

[I don't own this Story, CREDITS to December Love]

December Love

I was the new girl. I was just me, nothing more, nothing less. I can’t say I brought joy to the small town because I didn’t. The only thing I brought was an addition to the population. When I came here I didn’t expect much. It was just a new town with a few new faces but the same personalities as the people from my old school. I knew my parents would still be the same, my dad would still be working illegally, my mom would keep changing jobs and when my father and her weren’t fighting or working my mom would be focusing on my brother, but as soon as I was “bad” for those few moments I was the one that had their attention. But then when things would calm down my dad would be back to sleep on the couch and my mom would be back on the computer. All the while both of them making me cook, clean, and parent my brother. They were forcing me to grow up faster than I had to. Most kids my age could say they had all these friends. Me? I didn’t have time for that. Also I was very reserved keeping all of my emotions inside thinking there was no one that could be there for me. I was always made fun of by the other kids. They picked on me because I had low self-esteem, no friends, and ugly clothes., but to Him that didn’t matter.
It was December 16th when we met. I was 10 and he was 11. I was outside attempting to build a snowman.
“Hey, can I help?” I look over only to find a boy on the other side of the fence.
“Okay.” I tell him skeptically not knowing if this is a trick or not.
When he gets in the yard we start to build but I keep looking over my shoulder to make sure he’s not doing something behind my back. After a few minutes of silence we start to talk.
“My name is Daniel, but you can call me Danny if you want to.”
“My name‘s Brittney.
“Are you new?”
“Yeah, I just moved here.”
“Why here?”
“My parents wanted too.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah. So do you go to school?”
“Yes, but it’s a private school.”
“That‘s too bad. I don‘t have many friends at school, or anywhere.”
“Me neither. I’ll be your friend.”
Letting my guard down I eagerly responded.
“I‘d like that.”
(I never had a friend. A few animals but that was as close as it got.)
“It‘s really cold out here.” He said.
“Of course it is, it‘s winter.” We both laughed.
“I think I‘m going to go inside to get a drink and warm up for a bit.”
“I’ll be right here.”
He started to walk away then turned around.
“Do you want to come with?”
“I‘d like that just let me go ask.”
He waits outside while I go in and tell my parents I was leaving. When I get back outside we start walking to his house. He starts to tell me about his mom and how she’s sick. Then we get to his house, but before he opens the door he tells me not to judge him. “I would never judge you.” I said reassuring him that he could trust me we walk in. I seen why he told me not to judge him the house was a mess, the only lighting they had was a neon blue. There were syringes, white powder on the coffee table, thin paper, and empty pill and liquor bottles everywhere. Then as we walk down the hall way we hear faint pouting. We get to the bedroom where the noises are coming from and we find a man and a woman, we were just old enough to realize what they were doing. Daniel shuts the door the whole way and that immediately shut out all the noise. When we make our way to Danny’s bedroom I was shocked to find how small it was. All that was in the room was a tiny old baby mattress, a small stack of clothes, and a board game. So we sat on the floor and played chutes and ladders for 3 full hours. Then I seen it was getting late (I had to look at the clock in the hallway) so I went home. The next day after school he came over again and we played outside. A few days went by and before I knew it, it was time for Christmas break I was so happy that I could get away from school and I could play with Danny all day. That night Danny came over and this time we were in my house. We were laying on my bed watching TV. Then during a commercial I had asked him what he wanted for Christmas.
“What‘s Christmas?” He responded.
“What‘s Christmas? Christmas is only the best day ever. You get presents for no reason!” I said excitedly.
“Oh. I‘ve never had a Christmas.”
“How could you have not had a Christmas?”
“I don‘t know my dad never thought it was important.”
“Have you ever had a birthday party?”
“No..” He said frowning.
“Well, I‘m going to throw you a birthday party and you can spend Christmas with me.”
“You‘re my best friend.”
“You’re mine too.”
He went home right after the movie we talked through went off. The next day on Christmas eve I threw him a party. I got ice cream, tastykakes, and found some balloons. I took some of my toys that were in pretty good shape and rapped them in paper so he could open them. He was thrilled. When our two person party was over we were tired so we fell asleep on my bed. I guess no one noticed he was there because in the morning he was still right by my side. When my brother and I woke up my parents we all went out to open presents even Danny (I let him open most of mine). When the presents were opened me and Danny took them to my room and started separating. I got the girly ones and he got the crafts. That was the best day either of us had in a while.
A few years went by and now I was 15. We were still as close as possible not a day went by that we didn’t see each other. One night we went to see a movie together then out for smoothies. He gave me money then told me to order. It was cold so before I went he gave me his jacket. While I’m in line I get a text and it’s from Danny. It said to look in the right pocket. I did and there was a little box. I opened it and when I did tears flooded my eyes. It was a ring. When I looked back he was right behind me, got down on one knee and proposed. Immediately I said yes. There was no thinking about it, we both knew we would never find another and we were in love. About four months later we decided to get intimate. The next week he told me him and some friends were going to go see his mom because she’s getting worse and the doctors don’t know what’s wrong and so he invited me to go. I started to flip out I said that it was because of what we did that if he needed a break all he had to do was say so and I threw the ring he had given me at him. I knew that he didn’t need a break though. We were open enough with each other that he would have just told me I knew that it was because of his mom that he had to go I was just being hard headed. We were both broken. Later that night Danny and his friends left. Around 3 in the morning I got a call from Danny’s phone a police officer said that he was in a car accident and was severely injured. I started to bawl. I was asking them so many questions the only one they answered was what hospital is he at. I left immediately. When I got to the hospital there Danny was hooked up to so many different machines and wires it was an image I will never get out of my head. I started to cry even harder, he reached out and grabbed my hand. I was startled. He told me he loved me, then put something in my hand. It was the ring! He never let it go. I smiled and told him I loved him too. I felt so bad to see him just so helpless. I wanted to do something but I couldn’t.
“ You’re still my best friend.” He told me.
“You’re mine too.”
“I love you with all of my heart I really do, I want you to know that.”
“I‘m sorry for starting the fight I know you would have just tol..” He stopped me
“It doesn‘t matter now it‘s done. I‘m just glad I get to see your face one last time.”
“Don‘t say that! You‘re going to live and we‘ll be happy. I‘ll be your and you‘ll be mine like we always said.”
“Brittney, we will. It‘s just I‘ll be watching over you now and hoping you‘ll be happy and what else did we always say.?”
“…?”
“What‘s meant to be will be.”
“But this isn‘t supposed to happen.”
“Baby, this is how it works. Besides I think I was already dead but woke up because I wanted to tell you I love you. I couldn‘t leave things the way they were.”
Daniel and I lay holding one another and we fall asleep only difference is I woke up. Daniel died on December 16TH, as well as his 4 other friends. They were hit by a drunk driver who had lived and is only serving 3 years in jail. The night Danny died I tried to kill myself so I could be with him where ever he is but my “parents” called 911 and instead of dying I found out I was pregnant. Then just five days later Daniels mom passed on the 21st due to heart failure. A few weeks later I was in my second trimester so I had to go to the doctor for a routine checkup. They did an ultrasound and found no heartbeat. They said my son had died due to a blood infection. There are three stones that sit in a line creating only a faded memory of what once was my family.
Now, I’m back to having no one. But I still think of him everyday. I think of when we met, the time we spent together, the memories I now have, and I think of what could have been. There has been two guys since Daniel but none of them can even compare to what we had and I won’t settle for anything less. Sometimes I pick up pain pills and a razor thinking I could end it all. But would it? Would it give me back anything I had lost? Sometimes I wish it could have been me and not him. At least now I can say I felt love and I was never once happy until I was with him but I wish that I had living proof.

A Late Spring Shower

[ Before You Read this Story, I just want to let you know that I Don't Own this Story, CREDITS to Michael J. Welten ] ----ENJOY

A Late Spring Shower

The day darkened and the slowly moving rain seemed to fall so elegantly, you could pick out each individual rain drop. The late spring shower had come fairly often now. The mood was darker than it usually was. I sat in my black computer chair tilted backwards staring at the sky as the grey sheets of clouds fluttered along. The shower that was being given from the sky was not fierce nor was it gentle. The wind, being another attribute, pushed the rain which made it fall at a slight angle. The trees I saw across the street were swaying with the breeze and the leaves danced to the wind and beat with the rain. It was a very melancholy day as I heard the cars pass by; their tires against the wet asphalt, spraying the water out from under the tires. I didn’t have to see it to know it was happening. I un-tilted my chair to take a look down my driveway from the second story window of my humble abode. The rain had spider cracked the driveway with various streams breaking off of one another. The road was a darker black since the dirt had been washed away from the rain. A black sedan passed by. It made the same sound all of the other cars did. The sound people make when they want to quiet one another. I stared at various objects such as the rock at the end of the driveway that had gathered puddles in the natural dips of the rock itself. I rested my right arm on the window sill, and embraced the slight breeze to my face as I rest my chin on my forearm. The true smell of summer was almost in the air but the fresh smell of spring, heightened at its pinnacle, washed away every other smell. I enjoyed the cool, slight, brief breeze as I kept my eye on the rock. I watched the drops pound into the already overflowing puddle on the rock. As I admired the depressing weather and its soothing breeze, I noticed a light brown blur out of my peripheral vision. A fully grown female doe had crossed the street. Her pride was set high as she raised her ears and faced the on coming wind. Her stomach was white as well as her tail and fur under her chin. She was a female truly in her prime. She lowered her head to the grass on the opposite side of the road and stopped. She didn’t bite the grass but stayed completely still for a brief moment. She then picked her head up and stared into the distance as I examined her. The does’ ears were erect and moving slightly. I noticed her hearing and sight had picked up the sound of an oncoming car. I could not yet see the car because of the trees around my driveway yet I heard the sound of the car. The noise that was made by all of the cars was off in the distance. She was off to the side of the road and was safe from any bodily harm yet she seemed to stare at the direction of the oncoming car. Deer always seemed to stare at a noise making substance till it either stopped or passed by. This time was different though. She was turning her head slightly which made me realize she was following the cars’ direction as it came closer to her. The car was getting closer as the noise was getting louder. She quickly jerked her head to stare directly across the street as two more flashes of light brown came galloping out of the woodland. Each light brown blur was small and had white spots. As the first fawn crossed the double yellow line, the mother stared intently as the second fawn followed a couple yards behind. The noise from the car was getting louder and the first fawn was now almost completely across the street while the second fawn was now crossing the double yellow line. As the first fawn was nearly on the other side of the street, a black van appeared out of my peripheral, intent vision on the second fawn. The van was not slowing down and neither was either fawn. As the van passed, the first fawn scampered onto the other side of the road with its mother as the second fawns’ front half was now crossing the double yellow line.
The van continued on as it slammed into the fawns’ head and neck. The neck bent to the vans’ bumper corner while the fawns’ head hit the front bumper very violently. The van still continued at the same speed as the fawn became slightly air-born and had its’ back end now hit off of the drivers; side door. The fawn began to spin and still trying to run out of the way while slightly gripping the ground with its feet. The fawn couldn’t keep its’ balance as it proceeded to slip on the wet asphalt. As the fawn spun and rotated its injured side towards my direction I noticed that the neck was still bent in the position where it was hit and there were slight spots of blood coming from the fawns’ head. The fawn lost complete balance and collapsed on the asphalt and skidded a few extra feet to the edge of my driveway. Its head lay limp in the puddle of water that gathered at the bottom of my driveway from the water-flow. The fully grown doe stayed as still as a statue for the next minute while the van eventually disappeared and the fawn lay motionless with its curved neck and damaged head at the very edge of the road. The mothers’ ears moved slightly as the first fawn moved one leg toward its motionless sibling. The doe then proceeded slowly towards the paralyzed offspring as the first fawn led. The first fawn traveled around the motionless sibling and the mother came to the edge of the road in which the injured fawns’ stomach lay. The doe proceeded to lower her head and nudge the injured fawn softly on the stomach. The fawn didn’t move. The first fawn then proceeded to do the same to the mothers’ opposite position, moving the fawns’ back. Still, there was no response. The mother then moved the fawn slightly more violent as the offspring did the same. The mother turned her attention to the injured fawns’ head. The healthy fawn then looked at its mother as she shifted her head to look back. The mother then proceeded to turn around and walk back to the other side of the road. The healthy fawn stared at its mother and didn’t move. It then looked at its injured sibling and then trotted over to the mothers’ side. The mother and fawn crossed across the street effortlessly and the mother slowed to let the fawn lead the way as it crossed completely to the other side. The mother then stopped at the edge of the road while the fawn continued. It looked back at its’ still motionless offspring. It then jerked its’ head up to my window. It stared at me intensely for a brief moment before returning on its’ path. The injured fawn lay silent at the end of the driveway. The puddle was now a murky red color from the bleeding head. The mother trialed off into the distance. The sun shined slightly through the grey clouds and while it still rained, the stationary water was now being evaporated. It almost seemed as if the fawns’ soul was being lifted. I learned something that day. Life goes on, even though one may end, and taking the time to mourn the death of that life will always be worth it. It lives on in your heart and possibly others who are mourning with you, even if they didn’t know the life that once lived.

Depp is Hollywood's highest paid actor

Johnny Depp has been named Hollywood's highest paid actor this year.

The 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star earned £50 million (R552 million) for his role as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland'. The canny actor had a back-end deal for the film, which is just one of seven movies that have made over £640 million (R7 billion) at the worldwide box office.
Depp is now the only actor that has two films in the so-called 'Billionaires Club' - 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' being the other.
Forbes, which conducted the list, said about the actor's box office appeal, "His ability to almost guarantee a big box office (even ‘Public Enemies’ earned $214 million) means studios are willing to pay whatever it takes to get a bit of the Depp magic."
Depp, who only came tenth last year, should be in the charts next year as well. He is earning around £15 million for Angelina Jolie thriller 'The Tourist' and is currently working on the fourth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' adventure.

Ben Stiller came second in the charts, after earning £38 million for roles in 'Night at the Museum 2' and 'Meet the Fockers'.

Tom Hanks was third (£30 million), with Adam Sandler (£26.6 million) and Leonardo Di Caprio (£18 million) rounding out the top five.
Daniel Radcliffe is the sole British presence in the top ten. His £16 million takings saw him land in sixth place.
The rest of the top ten were Robert Downey Jr (£14.6 million), Tom Cruise
(£14.6 million), Brad Pitt (£13 million) and George Clooney (£12.6 million).

Brainy Qoutes

Muhammad Ali
At home I am a nice guy: but I don't want the world to know. Humble people, I've found, don't get very far.

Eminem
Say there's a white kid who lives in a nice home, goes to an all-white school, and is pretty much having everything handed to him on a platter - for him to pick up a rap tape is incredible to me, because what that's saying is that he's living a fantasy life of rebellion.

Nelson Mandela
It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.

Barack Obama
We need to steer clear of this poverty of ambition, where people want to drive fancy cars and wear nice clothes and live in nice apartments but don't want to work hard to accomplish these things. Everyone should try to realize their full potential.

Albert Einstein
When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.
